London, N21
Winchmore Hill is a district in the Borough of Enfield, North London, in the N21 postal district.
The earliest recorded mention of Winchmore Hill is in a deed dated A.D. 1319 (in which it is spelt Wynsemerhull), but by 1586 the village was known as Winchmore Hill.
Today Winchmore Hill is a rather lovely place to live, within easy reach of the centre of London by train, yet only a few minutes’ drive away from the countryside. At the heart of the area is the old village Green, which is surrounded by shops and restaurants (the Evening Standard described Winchmore Hill as “the suburb that thinks it’s a village”). To the west of the area is Grovelands Park, a 92 acre greenspace with a large lake, woodlands and grasslands.
Two websites http://www.n21online.com/ and www.N21.net provide lots of useful information on what is happening in the local area.
